Hello, Green Market Owners! I would like to take a few minutes to update you on what is going on with Green Market. These are truly exciting times and there is a lot that is going on and we feel that it is important to keep the Owners updated!
A lot has happened since our annual meeting last September. In November ,I took over the President’s position and this happened right after my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. At our annual meeting we had four new board members elected and our previous president, Kimberly Page, stepped down because her family was lead to do mission work abroad. Due to the extensive changes with the board, it took a few months to get everyone on the same page. Now we are getting into full stride and making many advancements.
There is a lot that goes into starting a food co-op. A lot more than I, or anyone on the board, anticipated. As I write this letter, we have laid the foundation for a few major projects. Our official business plan is in its final stages and just about complete. We have sought legal representation for the Owner Loan program. We hired the lawyer that Good Foods Coop, in Lexington, uses to finalize our owner loan program, which will soon be launched. Also, we set up a Facebook and Twitter (@greenmarketcoop) account and are finalizing a new and refreshed website: www.greenmarket.coop Please sign up to see what is going on.
Our Ownership is growing as well. We have added over a dozen people in the past couple of weeks and we hope to continue to add new Owners. The Owners of the co-op will be the foundation for the success of the co-op. If you know of anyone who might be interested please contact us at

I would like to say that I am very impressed with the talents and passion that the new board members have. Each board member has really stepped up and has distinct strengths and talents that will be vital for the success of opening a storefront. Please be patient with us as we keep moving forward. There are always unforeseen bumps in the road that makes the journey a little longer than anticipated, but just know that we are dedicated to this project.
Lastly, I want each of you to know that the website is in it's early stages, even at this point. We are really going to put time and effort into making it a tool that will be useful for us all. Some examples are listed below:
